
Michael Burkhart joined the board of 1809 LGBT Alumni most recently in October 2004. He previously served on the board from 1997 to 2000 as the organization’s Treasurer. Michael has served as the chair of the Communications Committee, and in July 2008 assumes the role of Co-Chair.
While at Miami University, Michael was very active in the Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual Alliance (GLBA), serving in leadership roles including the offices of co-president and co-vice president. Michael graduated from Miami in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Statistics.
Michael has worked for the last fourteen years at Nationwide Retirement Solutions, the Nationwide Insurance enterprise’s division that provides IRC Section 457(b) deferred compensation plans for government employers and their employees. Michael serves as the Program Director for the City of Chicago and Cook County deferred compensation plans, two of the company’s largest clients. In this capacity, Michael oversees the sales and administrative activities for both plans and maintains relationships with City and County officials.
Michael holds the FINRA Series 6, 26, 63 and 65 securities licenses as well as life, accident and health insurance licenses in the State of Illinois. He has completed the Certified Retirement Counselor and Certified Retirement Administrator designations from the International Foundation for Retirement Education, and is currently pursuing the Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation.
Michael lives in Chicago in the North Center neighborhood.
