Greetings to Miami University Alumni, Friends, Faculty and
Students! 2006 marked a milestone in the 1809 LGBT Alumni history as
we sponsored the first ever LGBT Alumni Weekend at Miami University.
We remember back on the journey and experiences of this weekend with
joy-filled hearts and a strong sense of accomplishment.
In an environment which more often fails to have a history of
inclusion, we busted down the doors of Mother Miami with a rainbow
punch! And it felt great! What made the weekend incredible was the
diversity of our attendees — many class years going
back to ‘75 and up to current students, wonderful Miami University
faculty and staff participation (thank you!), and every sexual
orientation of life — Bisexual, Lesbian, Gay, Questioning, Curious,
Straight, Queer, Transgender, Omni. We rocked!
We should be proud of our history. Miami University is our home. We
claim it as ours and no one will ever walk that “red brick road”
alone because of their sexuality or gender identity. Some true
champions of the LGBT Miami history attended. You know who you are.
Thank you! We also remembered those who are no longer physically
with us and those of you who were with us in spirit. We missed you!
As you look through the pictures from the event, feel proud of your
family — your Miami family. The next Miami University LGBT Alumni
Reunion will be in 2009. Please plan on coming. Let us know now if
you would like to help. Miami will always be your home and we will
forever be together as alums.
